Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel
Reviewed by Julianna Garitee
Storyline: Action-packed, character driven, issue oriented
Pace: slow-paced
Tone: funny, reflective, suspenseful, easy to understand
This book explores the seasons while joining Frog and Toad on their adventures. This book is great for kids to relate to and is a funny, easy read. There are 5 chapters, or different stories in the book, each with a different theme and setting. Although the characters are not people, the author does a good job personifying them and creating an almost believable narrative. The illustrations are simplistic and use minimal color but work well with the text and dialog. I don’t think I would necessarily read this out loud in class, but I would most definitely have this book and other Frog and Toad adventures available in the class library section/corner.
