A Little Story About a Big Turnip by Tatiana Zunshine

Earlier in the month, the children had learned the motto, “Hands are for helping, not hurting.” To help emphasize this concept, we discussed how in both books, the characters used their hands to help others. The children were then shown a poster that said, “we are more than a class, we are a team.” Before starting the project of the day, the children were placed in a huddle where the new motto was repeated three times. After that, they were asked to, with the help of the education students, trace their hands and color them. The education students cut the hands out and helped the children place them on the poster.
